Insider guide
Shopping Lincoln Park.
The story
Lincoln Park's shopping centers on the Armitage–Halsted Hub: tree-lined W Armitage Ave from N Sheffield Ave to N Halsted St, plus N Halsted St and W Webster Ave nearby. Direct-to-consumer brand shops sit beside longtime local boutiques, and the Lincoln Park Chamber calls the hub the neighborhood's unofficial wine district. It suits a polished half-day of shopping with a cookie or a glass of wine between stops.
The brand row is the 800 and 900 blocks of Armitage, with Todd Snyder, Rothy's, Serena & Lily, Gorjana and Hotel Chocolat. Local shops like Lori's Shoes and Art Effect share the stretch, and Halsted and Webster add a bookstore, a food shop and a run of bakeries.
What to Expect
On the block just west of Halsted, Todd Snyder (815 W Armitage Ave) has a Suit Shop with alterations, Lori's Shoes (824) sells marked-down footwear, and Rothy's (846), the brand's only Chicago store, sells shoes and bags. Levain Bakery (849) and Serena & Lily (853) come next; at Serena & Lily you can see furniture and bedding in person and pick up free fabric swatches. Hotel Chocolat (900) has a Wall of Chocolate with more than 100 varieties. Maison Parisienne (901) sells croissants, macarons and French jams and mustard. Gorjana (903) does gold jewelry with in-store stylists, and Art Effect (934) mixes women's fashion and jewelry with gifts and home accessories.
On Halsted, The Kismet Table (2142 N Halsted St) sells cookbooks, pantry goods, housewares, cheese and charcuterie, and Lilliput Books (2150) has a section on Chicago history and architecture. Leonidas Chocolate Cafe (1964 N Halsted St) is a short walk south of the Armitage corner. On Webster, Sweet Mandy B's (1208 W Webster Ave) and Floriole (1220) sit side by side.
Best Time to Visit
Brand shops on Armitage generally open 10am to 6 or 7pm Monday to Saturday and 11am or noon to 5 or 6pm on Sunday. Many smaller shops don't post hours, so call ahead. Saturday is market day: the Lincoln Park Farmers Market (Armitage & Orchard) and Green City Market (1817 N Clark St) both run 7am–1pm through Nov 21. Shop the markets first and Armitage once stores open. Go early for the bakeries too, since Beacon Doughnuts makes only about a dozen small batches a day and Levain gets lines on weekend mornings.
If You Only Have an Hour
Start at Todd Snyder (815 W Armitage Ave) and work along the block to Rothy's (846) and Levain Bakery (849). Continue to Hotel Chocolat (900) and finish at Art Effect (934) for a gift.
